For Reflection and Preparation

  May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.  His divine power has granted us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.                          2 Peter 1:2-3

  A reason why the reputation of the Christians at Rome was worth having is that faith, not some other attainment or virtue, is theessential item in life.  Faith in Jesus Christ is what matters.  Knowledge is good.  Good works are necessary.  The fruit of the Spirit is what we want to see.  But faith alone—faith in Christ as Lord and Savior is essential.  Without faith no one can be justified.                James Montgomery Boice, Romans

Assurance of God’s Grace                               Micah 7:18-19

  Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance?  He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love.  He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities under foot.  You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.

Confessing Our Faith                      The Apostles’ Creed

I Believe in God the Father, Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

Born of the virgin Mary,

Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, dead, and buried:

He descended into hell;

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,

And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty,

From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I Believe in the Holy Spirit;

The holy catholic church;

The communion of saints,

The forgiveness of sins,

The resurrection of the body;

And the life everlasting.  Amen.
