For Reflection and Preparation

  Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.  Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.           Psalm 33:20-22

  Nothing is of ourselves; for remission of sins, and adoption, and unspeakable glory are given to us by Him…. But, behold, a new soul (for it was cleansed), and also a new body, and a new worship, and all things absolutely new.  For instead of the Jerusalem below we have received that mother city which is above, and instead of a material temple we have seen a spiritual temple; instead of tables of stone, fleshy tables; instead of circumcision, baptism; instead of the manna, the Lord’s body; instead of water from a rock, blood from His side; instead of Moses’ and Aaron’s rod, the Cross; instead of the promised land, the kingdom of heaven; instead of a thousand priests, one High Priest; instead of a lamb without understanding, a spiritual Lamb.  But all these things are of God by Christ and His free gift.                                        John Chrysostom  c.350-407

Assurance of God’s Grace                             Romans 5:1-2     Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Confessing Our Faith                      The Apostles’ Creed

I Believe in God the Father, Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord,

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

Born of the virgin Mary,

Suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, dead, and buried:

He descended into hell;

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,

And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty,

From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I Believe in the Holy Spirit;

The holy catholic church;

The communion of saints,

The forgiveness of sins,

The resurrection of the body;

And the life everlasting.  Amen.
